Licensing: event planning just got easier | Toller Beattie Solicitors, Devon

Community events are to get easier to organise because the Government plans to make changes to the Licensing Act 2003, taking many indoor sports and entertainment events out of the Licensing regime. They are focusing on smaller events , but are suggesting that” smaller” means audiences of 1000 for sports and 500 for other entertainments, which for most organisations would probably count as a big event.

You will still need a licence or temporary event notice if you are planning to have a bar or if you will run on after 11pm, and the change in the law has not come in yet, but if you are planning ahead, perhaps even for an event next year, you may find that some of the red tape has gone.
