Personal Injury

Introduction

If you’ve been injured in an accident where someone else was to blame, you could be entitled to claim compensation for your injuries, and - if you had to take time off work - for loss of earnings too.

Can I make a claim?

You would be surprised at the number of different circumstances where a claim can be made. You may have been involved in a road accident, or had an accident at work. Or, you may have tripped or fallen in a public place which has not been properly maintained or repaired.

Sometimes a family member or dependent can claim if an accident results in death. Also, claims can be made for criminal assault.

Is it worth claiming?

Many people are surprised by the amount of compensation they receive for even minor injuries. For example, a whiplash injury following a car accident, which causes the injured party to be off work for a short period and to suffer symptoms for only a few weeks, could attract an award in the region of £1500. Any loss of earnings and other expenses could be claimed on top of this figure.

Those more seriously injured are able to claim much more. You can also claim for loss of earnings, travel expenses, prescriptions and other expenses caused by the accident.

What if I was to blame?

If you were entirely to blame for the accident you will probably not be able to make a claim.

However, it may still be worth asking for our advice.

If, for example, the accident was your fault but occurred because you had not been properly trained you may well be able to make a claim.

Even if you were partly to blame you may be able to claim.

It is always worth asking us, and remember, the first interview will not cost you anything.

Will I have to go to court?

Most cases are settled with insurance companies without going to Court. If it is necessary to go to Court we will give you our full support and we will represent you.

What can I do to help myself?

It will help us to help you if you keep a record of all expenses incurred by you as a result of the accident. If you have receipts, please retain them.

If you are going to lose wages, keep all pay slips received after the accident showing your losses. It would also help if you keep a diary recording your visits to hospitals, doctors, physiotherapists etc.

What will it cost to pursue a claim?

Nothing. We will take all suitable cases on a No Win, No Fee basis. This means that if you win the case the majority of your costs will be paid by the other side and you will keep the majority of your compensation.

If you should lose the case we would not charge a fee under our agreement with you.

Why contact us?

We are experts in personal injury law, with many years experience of handling claims.

Over recent years there has been a trend for claiming companies to advertise their services. Such firms do not process the work themselves but pass it to other solicitors who may be based elsewhere in the country. We prefer to deal with local people, using our local knowledge and experience to your advantage.

We can visit you at home, or in hospital, if required.

What should I do if I think I have a claim?

Contact us to arrange an interview to discuss your case - this interview will cost you nothing and afterwards we will either advise that you do not have a strong case, or we will offer to take your case on a No Win, No fee basis.
