Sewer Adoption

From 1st July 2011 the Water Industry (Schemes for Adoption of Private Sewers) Regulations 2011 come into force and the regulations require statutory sewerage undertakers to take ownership of all private sewers and lateral drains that are connected to the public sewerage system. (A lateral drain is that part of a drain serving a single property which is outside of the property boundary.)

The regulations provide for an overnight transfer of ownership on 1 October 2011. The transfer will apply to residential and commercial properties. MORE
